Sydney is a harbour city first and everything else second. Its geography does the heavy lifting: sandstone headlands, ferry routes that double as commutes, and beaches inside the city limits rather than an hour outside them.
For travellers who care about architecture and engineering, it is unusually generous — a landmark opera house, a steel arch bridge you can walk across, and a coastline of small, precise engineering solutions to living beside the sea.
